Backup and Recovery
By default, Buzzio keeps private E2E chat history in a locally encrypted database on your devices. Optional backups exist so you can restore when you choose — without turning Buzzio into a readable cloud inbox.
Why backup is optional
Sealed chats aim to be a blind relay. Automatic full-cloud mirrors would change that model. So:
- New login restores identity and keys (Buzzio ID + phrase)
- Full private history appears only if you unlock an encrypted backup you control
Two paths

The backup recovery key is a long secret separate from your 12-word account phrase. You may need both when moving phones with history.

After Premium ends, cloud backup is typically retained about 60 days, then removed.
What backup covers
Usually 1-to-1 and permanent groups (plus related contacts). It does not restore temporary groups or Whisper private sessions the same way. Communities, Broadcast, Stories, and Whisper Questions are not the same restore path as private-chat backup.
What backup is not
Cloud backup Premium ≠ Whisper Link Packs ≠ Rocket Drop ≠ Private Vault.
Tips
- Write down both the 12-word phrase and any backup recovery key.
- Test restore before you wipe an old phone.
- Losing the phrase without an unlockable backup means those private keys and that local history are gone for good — by design.
