Whisper Private Chat
Whisper is Buzzio’s time-limited private chat you start with a QR code or link. It is for moments when you want to talk without adding someone as a permanent contact, and without turning the session into a lasting chat thread on our servers.
Messages are encrypted on devices before they are relayed. Joiners appear as anonymous slots, not as Buzzio IDs inside the chat. When the timer ends (or you close the session), that Whisper room is wiped.
Get started
- Open the Whisper area in Buzzio.
- Choose Private chat (not Questions).
- Create a session: give it a name, pick how long it lasts, and set how many people may join.
- Optionally turn on Vanish and/or Secure View for the room.
- Show the QR code or share the link.
- When someone scans or opens the link, they join as an anonymous member and chat with you.
Create a session
When you create Whisper private chat you choose:
- Session name — for you to organize active rooms (“Meetup desk”, “Event help”)
- Duration — 1, 2, 3, 6, 24, 48, 72, 96, or 168 hours (up to 7 days)
- Max members — presets such as 1 / 5 / 10 / 25 / 50
- Optional Vanish (messages auto-delete after seen)
- Optional Secure View (harder to screenshot / record while viewing)
Free accounts may create Whisper sessions on a cooldown (about 7 days between creates). Buzzio Premium can unlock unlimited creates.
Join a session
- Scan the creator’s QR or open their shared link.
- Read the security rules shown on join (Vanish / Secure View if enabled).
- Confirm join. You get an anonymous slot — your Buzzio ID is not shared into the chat as the other person’s contact address.
- Chat in your private lane with the creator.
Important: Whisper is not one big group chat among every scanner. Each joiner gets a private 1-to-1 lane with the creator. The creator sees an inbox of anonymous member slots (and can give local nicknames only on their own device).
Chat inside Whisper
Inside a live session you can typically:
- Send text and media
- See delivery / seen-style ticks
- Reply and react
- Use view-once media (opens once; the viewer clears after a short window)
- Delete for me / delete for everyone where offered
- Forward text out into a normal chat later if you choose
The creator can remove (block) a slot. A scanner can leave early. Leaving or being removed cleans that lane.
Vanish and Secure View in Whisper
Unlike 1-to-1 (where these are often mutual request flows), Whisper sets them as room rules at create time:

Joiners see these rules before they enter.
End the session
The room ends when:
- The timer you chose runs out, or
- The creator closes the session early
After expiry or close, that Whisper’s messages, session data, and participant linkage for the room are deleted. Your normal Buzzio account and unrelated chats are not deleted — only that Whisper room ends.
Tips and limits
- Duration max is 7 days (168 hours).
- Max members presets go up to 50.
- Participants do not exchange Buzzio IDs inside the Whisper chat protocol.
- Creator → many anonymous lanes; scanners do not all sit in one shared group thread.
- Capture protection is hardening, not a physical guarantee on every phone or browser.
- Free create cooldown is about 7 days unless you have Premium.
Related features
Whisper Questions is a different product: anonymous ask links (for example on whisper.buzzio.dev) where people submit answers you read in the app. Questions is not the same as this QR private chat, and it is not the same privacy model.
