Notifications

Buzzio notifications alert you to messages, calls, tags, and a few special features — without forcing one noisy setting for everything. You can control global previews, mute one chat, or quiet a whole community.

Get started

  1. Open Notifications settings in Buzzio.
  2. Choose whether message and call alerts are on.
  3. Pick a preview mode: Name and message, Name only, or No name or message.
  4. Optionally set repeat alerts and the message sound / call ringtone.
  5. Fine-tune mute options inside individual chats, contacts, communities, or channels.

Global notification settings

In Notifications settings you can control:

  • Message notifications
  • Call notifications
  • In-chat sounds
  • Preview mode:
    • Name and message
    • Name only
    • No name or message
  • Repeat alerts: Never, Every 1 minute, Every 5 minutes, or Every 10 minutes
  • Message sound and call ringtone pickers

Use No name or message when you are in public and do not want lock-screen text to reveal who wrote what.

Mute a chat or contact

For a person:

  1. Open their chat or contact settings.
  2. Turn on Mute (or Mute notifications where shown).
  3. Optionally set a custom tone, ringtone, or vibrate style for that contact.

Muted chats stay in your inbox; they just stop pushing alerts the way unmuted ones do.

Community and channel notifications

Communities and channels use levels so large spaces do not flood you.

LevelLabelWhat you get
AllEvery messagePushes for messages in channels you can access
MentionsOnly tagTags such as @username, @role, @everyone / similar mention alerts
NoneMutedNo push for that community or channel

You can set a community default and override it per channel. Some large communities may lock members into tags-only delivery.

Stories notifications

  • New stories from people you follow usually appear as a silent ring update — not a banner that previews the photo or video.
  • If someone tags you in a story, you can get a visible alert such as “{name} tagged you in a story.”
  • Stories do not keep re-notifying for views, replies, or expiry.

Whisper Questions notifications

When someone answers your anonymous ask link, you can get a push like New Message! / You got a new message. Opening it takes you back to that question. The banner is intentionally generic — it is not meant to print the full anonymous answer on your lock screen.

How previews stay private

  • For sealed chats, notification design aims to avoid shipping private message bodies in the clear through the push path.
  • When your preview mode allows it, the app can show a clearer preview after your device decrypts the message locally.
  • Some group or community alerts may first show a short placeholder such as New message, then update once the device is ready.

Tips and limits

  • Global preview mode and per-chat mute work together — check both if an alert still appears.
  • Only tag is usually the best balance for busy communities.
  • Call ringtone and message sound are separate controls.
  • Silent story rings are normal; look at the Story tab for colored updates.
  • Turning off system notification permission for Buzzio in Android / iOS settings overrides in-app toggles.

Related features

  • Encrypted calls — call alerts and the Call tab.
  • Stories — silent rings vs tag alerts.
  • Safety and moderation — blocking someone also removes unwanted contact paths.
  • Communities — channel-level mute and tags-only modes.
