Honest sealed vs shared
Most privacy comparisons ignore feature scope. Buzzio includes Communities, Broadcast, Stories, and open-history groups — surfaces that need server-held or server-managed keys so backscroll, roles, discovery, and moderation work.
Calling those “as private as sealed 1:1” would be dishonest. Buzzio labels them instead.
Two product lanes
| Mode | Surfaces | Server role |
|---|---|---|
| Sealed (Privacy section) | 1-to-1, Whisper private chat, E2E groups, private calls | Relay ciphertext; minimal durable private graph after delivery/expiry |
| Shared (Feature mode) | Open-history groups, Communities, Broadcast, Stories ops, Whisper Questions | Operate the product with more durable history |
Either way, Buzzio does not sell your data.
Why honesty is a product feature
Users lose trust when marketing says “encrypted” for everything. Buzzio’s claim is:
- Signal-class goals on sealed surfaces
- Transparent extra storage where the product is a room or feed
- Clear docs so you can pick the right tool
Compared with other apps
| Pattern | Risk |
|---|---|
| “Everything is encrypted” marketing | Blurs who holds keys |
| Signal-narrow product | Strong secrecy, fewer social surfaces |
| Telegram-style cloud defaults | Powerful features, weaker default private-chat framing |
Buzzio ships both lanes and documents the tradeoff.
Tips
- Maximum secrecy → sealed 1:1, Whisper private, E2E groups.
- Late joiners / roles / discovery → open-history, Communities, Broadcast.
- Read the privacy strip on each feature page before relying on a claim.
