Account and recovery

Do I need a phone number or email to make a Buzzio account?

No. Your account uses a random 12-digit Buzzio ID and a 12-word recovery phrase created on your device. Optional @username is separate.

I lost my 12-word recovery phrase. Can Buzzio reset it?

No. Buzzio never receives your phrase or private messaging keys. Without the phrase (and without an unlockable encrypted backup for history), we cannot rebuild those keys. Keep the phrase offline somewhere safe.

How do I sign in on a new phone?

Install Buzzio, choose restore / sign in, enter Buzzio ID + 12-word phrase. That restores identity and keys. Private chat history only returns if you unlock an encrypted backup with your recovery key.

What is the difference between the recovery phrase and the backup recovery key?

  • 12-word phrase — restores your account identity and messaging keys.
  • Backup recovery key — unlocks an encrypted backup of chat history you chose to save.

You may need both when moving phones with history.

Privacy and reading messages

Can Buzzio read my private chats?

On sealed surfaces — 1-to-1, Whisper private chat, E2E groups, and private calls — Buzzio is designed so we cannot read message or call contents as plaintext. Readable private history lives on your devices.

Can Buzzio read everything in the app?

No single rule covers every tab. Shared products store more so they can work:

  • Open-history groups, Communities, Broadcast
  • Whisper Questions (answers stored so you can read them)
  • Stories (audience / views while live)
  • Optional contact sync and encrypted cloud backup

Those are honest feature tradeoffs — and that data is still not sold.

What does "zero metadata" mean?

On sealed private surfaces (especially 1-to-1 after delivery when nothing remains undelivered), Buzzio aims not to keep a durable server archive of who privately talked to whom. It does not mean Buzzio stores zero operational data anywhere.

Do you sell my data?

No. Not messages, not metadata, not Buzzio IDs, not community posts, not Whisper content, not backups. Never.

Notifications and sync

Why am I not getting notifications?

Check, in order:

  1. Phone system settings — is Buzzio allowed to notify?
  2. In-app Notifications — messages / calls toggles and preview mode
  3. Per-chat Mute
  4. Community / channel level: Every message, Only tag, or Muted

Stories often update as silent rings, not banners. See Notifications for full controls.

What is contact sync?

Optional (off by default). When enabled, Buzzio can keep a map of saved contacts so features like Stories audiences work better across devices. You can turn it off later.

Feature mix-ups

Is Whisper Questions the same as Whisper private chat?

No.

  • Private chat — live QR / link encrypted room that expires
  • Questions — anonymous ask link answered in a browser; you read answers in-app

Which should I use: Group, Community, or Broadcast?

  • Group — one member chat room (choose E2E or open-history)
  • Community — many channels, roles, events
  • Broadcast — admin posts; followers don't reply in-feed

Why didn't my chat history appear after login on a new phone?

Login restores identity, not a default cloud mirror of sealed chats. Restore an encrypted backup if you made one.

Safety, age, and billing

How do I block or report someone?

Use Privacy → Block contacts, and Report from the chat or space. Communities also have bans and audit tools for admins. More detail: Safety and moderation.

How old do I need to be?

Buzzio is 13+. Optional wallet features are 18+.

How do I cancel Premium or Link Packs?

Manage subscriptions in Google Play or Apple Subscriptions (cancel at least 24 hours before renewal when your store requires it). Link Packs are create credits, separate from cloud backup Premium.

How do I delete my account?

Use in-app account deletion when available, or email with subject Privacy Request — Delete Account. See Contact and support.

Tips and limits

  • Write down the 12-word phrase before you need it.
  • "Encrypted" does not always mean the same secrecy model on every tab.
