Buzzio Communities

Discord-shaped homes for clubs that need categories, channels, roles, events, and moderation — with an honest label: shared rooms, TLS in transit, not end-to-end encrypted.

Introduction

A real community home — not a sealed 1:1 thread.

Buzzio Communities are shared servers for clubs, schools, creators, and local groups. Under one community live categories, text channels, roles, events, invites, and moderation. Message text is stored so late joiners, multi-device history, and moderation can work — up to 10,000 members per community.

We do not sell community data. Never. Not channel messages. Not member lists. Not role maps. Not event RSVPs. Not invite tokens.

Why Buzzio is best for communities

Familiar structure

Community → categories → text channels — Discord-shaped, Buzzio-hosted, separate from Groups.

Honest encryption

Plaintext shared rooms with TLS in transit — clearly labeled not E2E, so you know what Buzzio can and cannot claim.

Roles you can explain

@everyone, Creator, Creator Admin, and custom roles with named permissions — not vague “mods somewhere.”

Password channels

Lock a topic inside the same server. The password gates who enters — it does not encrypt the messages.

Events that work

Interested RSVP plus location as text, a link, or a #channel — visible to members, never sold.

Invite hygiene

Tokens, optional community password, approval queues, bans, and temp invites — join by share, not a sold marketplace.

What you get

  • Categories & channels
  • Custom roles
  • Password channels
  • Events + Interested
  • Invite links & QR
  • Approval queues
  • Audit logs
  • Up to 10,000 members

How it works

Discord-style hierarchy

  1. Create a community

Name it, optionally set a password and join approval. Seeds Welcome + #general and @everyone defaults.

  2. Add categories & channels

Organize the sidebar. Channels can be open or password-locked. Voice channels open an E2E voice room (max 20) on the app.

  3. Assign roles

Creator, Creator Admin, custom roles, and @everyone control invite, moderate, structure, and post rights.

  4. Run the room

Pins, slow mode for new members, tags, events, and audit logs — without turning your club into an ad graph.

Roles & permissions

Permissions are additive: Creator has everything; Creator Admin has everything except removing the creator; custom roles and @everyone merge with any true winning. Position is display sort only — higher position does not override lower roles.

Community-level

  • Create / edit channels & categories
  • Manage roles, members, bans
  • Invites & temp invites
  • Events, rules, audit logs

Per-channel overlays

  • Who can view
  • Who can send text / media
  • Who can react
  • Password channel membership

Events

Schedule with title, time window, optional recurrence, and a location as free-form text, an https link, or a community #channel. Members tap Interested — RSVPs are visible to fellow members, not a public web directory and not sold.

Join & discovery

There is no public marketplace dump of every community. People join by invite token, QR, deep link, or community ID — plus optional password and optional approval. Hard cap: 10,000 members. Near 5,000, we tip organizers toward tags-only notifications.

Intentional discovery — share a link. Not scraped for ads.

Boundaries

Honest encryption

Communities are open shared rooms. Traffic uses TLS in transit. Channel text is plaintext on Buzzio servers so history, mentions, moderation, and future bots work. Password channels gate membership — they do not make messages operator-blind. If you need Buzzio-blind bodies, use 1:1 chat, Whisper, or E2E groups.

Communities vs Groups

Communities

  • Server → categories → many channels
  • Discord-style roles & events
  • Up to 10,000 members
  • Shared plaintext history by design

Groups

  • One focused room
  • E2E or open-history at create
  • Up to 500 members
  • Super Admin / Admin roles

Groups are not nested under communities. Use Groups for one conversation; Communities when the product is a home with rooms.

Tips

  • Need operator-blind chat? Use E2E groups or 1:1 — not Communities
  • Use password channels for sensitive topics inside a larger club
  • Turn on approval + community password for invite hygiene
  • Announce to followers without chat chaos? Try Broadcast Channels
