Buzzio Encrypted backup

Optional restore for private chat history on a new phone — encrypted blobs you unlock with a recovery key you control. Staff cannot open the backup.

Introduction

Restore history without giving Buzzio a readable cloud inbox.

By default, sealed chat history stays in a locally encrypted database on your devices. Optional encrypted backup exists so you can restore private history when you choose — without turning Buzzio into a staff-readable chat panel in the cloud.

We store encrypted blobs. Unlock needs your recovery key. We do not sell backup contents. We cannot open them without your key.

Why Buzzio is best for encrypted backup

Optional by design

New login restores identity and keys. Full private history returns only if you unlock a backup you made.

Your recovery key

Unlock with a 64-character backup recovery key — or phrase wrap if you chose that path. Separate from day-to-day login alone.

Ciphertext only

Cloud backup is encrypted blobs. Staff cannot browse your chats from the backup store.

Two restore paths

On-device encrypted export you control, or optional encrypted cloud backup for phone moves.

Clear scope

Built for 1:1 and permanent E2E groups — not Whisper, temporary groups, or open social rooms.

Separate products

Backup Premium is not Buzzio Premium, not Private Vault, not Rocket Drop, and not Link Packs.

What you get

A restore path for private history you choose to protect — without a default full-cloud mirror of every sealed chat.

  • On-device export
  • Optional cloud backup
  • Recovery key unlock
  • ~100 MB free cloud
  • ~100 GB Premium / year
  • 1:1 + permanent groups
  • Staff cannot open
  • Everything / Custom modes

How it works

Two restore paths

On-device encrypted export

  • A file you control
  • Locked by a recovery key you set
  • Good for offline custody

Encrypted cloud backup

  • Encrypted blobs stored for restore
  • Unlock with your recovery key
  • Free text-oriented tier + Premium media tier

How to enable and restore

  1. Open Backups

In the app: Profile → Backups. Enable encrypted backup when you want a restore path.

  2. Set your unlock material

Create or confirm a backup recovery key (or phrase wrap if offered). Write it down offline.

  3. Choose scope

Back up everything in scope, or customize which chats participate — within 1:1 and permanent E2E groups.

  4. Restore on a new phone

Install from official stores, restore identity with Buzzio ID + 12-word phrase, then unlock the encrypted backup with your recovery key.

Recovery key ≠ seed phrase

Your 12-word phrase restores account identity and messaging keys. Your backup recovery key unlocks the encrypted history backup you made. You may need both when moving phones with history. Losing the backup key means that backup stays unreadable forever — including to Buzzio.

Seed phrase alone is not a magic “give me every chat back” button unless you also have an unlockable backup.

Cloud plans

Confirm live prices in the app. Typical cloud offers:

Free cloud

  • About 100 MB for life
  • Text-oriented restore size
  • Enough for lighter histories

Backup Premium

  • About 100 GB / year
  • Text + media restore room
  • After Premium ends, cloud backup is typically retained about 90 days, then removed

What backup covers

Private-chat backup is scoped for sealed history you actually want to restore later.

Usually included

  • 1-to-1 sealed chats
  • Permanent E2E groups
  • Related contacts for those threads

Not the same restore path

  • Temporary groups
  • Whisper / QR sessions
  • Communities, Broadcast, Stories
  • Open-history groups
  • Whisper Questions

Boundaries

Encrypted backup vs Private Vault

Encrypted backup

  • Restore private chat history
  • Optional cloud or on-device export
  • Backup recovery key

Private Vault

  • Personal file and password locker
  • You upload what enters
  • Vault unlock + biometric gate

What encrypted backup does not mean

Enabling backup after a wipe cannot recreate history that was never backed up. Sealed messages that never delivered while a peer was offline will not appear later as if they did. Backup is not a readable Buzzio cloud inbox. And losing both phrase and unlockable backup means those private keys and that local history are gone for good — by design.

Tips

  • Write down both the 12-word phrase and any backup recovery key
  • Test restore before you wipe an old phone
  • Export or renew before Premium grace ends
  • Install only from official store links when restoring
  • Read Backup and recovery for the full guide

Ready to protect restore?

Download Buzzio, enable encrypted backup, and keep the recovery key offline — history you can restore without a staff-readable cloud.
